EDAIN McCOY's WITCHY PAGES

Photos

I get many requests for photos or information about me, my family, my friends, my hobbies, etc. For those of who are interested, and have the patience to wait through the download, here are a few pics from the McCoy Family album, and from my personal collection of photos of friends and memorable events.

If you have the time and interest, please stop by my other websites: www.PiscesMoonParanormal.com or www.MySpace.com/EdainMcCoy.

Minutes Before Main Ritual, Florida Pagan Gathering, Beltane 2007
Gavin Bone took this photo of Ann Moura, Janet Farrar, and myself as we entered the ritual area. He noted we were dressed in Maiden, Mother, and Crone colors. For Ann to be in crone black is strange, since she's one of the most nurturing, caring "mother" types I've ever met. I do know that when we room together, strange things happen. We shared our quarters for Beltane 2007 with Gavin and Isaac Bonewitz. At breakfast in the dining hall on the last morning of festival, a good friend from Michigan who made the trip down--and is not a person easily surprised or shocked--looked at me in amazement, and asked, "What the hell goes on your cabin?" We'll never tell!

Everyone say it with me, NO ONE CHERISHES THEIR ANIMALS MORE THAN PAGANS!!! In fact, we go a little over the top when loving our fur children. Here I am with my beloved familiar "Sandy" in 1993. Sandy passed into the Summerland in February 2002 after 14 happy years with me. He's still around in spirit, and many nights I feel his spectral paws stumble across my ankles to find his favorite sleeping spot. I raised him from a pup and will always miss him.

Florida Pagan Gathering, Beltane 2006
I'm on the left, seen here with FPG's photographer and videographer Diane (in the middle), and singer Gina Ciolti (on the right) in our cabin at the Beltane 2006 Gathering.

Gina and I were so worn out by Saturday night we just couldn't leave the cabin again, and we expected to be asleep early. However, there were so many people we wished to spend more time with that we subconsciously conjured them to us. We should both know better than to go making wishes in the magically charged atmosphere of a good Pagan festival. Welcome guests kept arriving from 6pm to 3am. After midnight we just refused to get out of bed, even for photographs, and we're cackling like... uh, well, like Witches whenever someone else knocked on our door.

In my backyard pool, Age 2-1/2. I still have a nasty scar on my right knee where I bounced onto a small rock under the pool.

A Surprise Awaiting Me at Florida Pagan Gathering
An impressive number of my... uh, "friends" consprired to keep the fact that my friend, David, from Michigan would be attending Florida Pagan Gathering's Beltane 2007 Festival. One of those "friends" who kept the secret was FPG's official photographer and webmistress, Diane, who distracted me while David snuck up on me from behind. I was stunned to hear his voice, much less to turn around and see him standing there.

They are all lucky I love them so much because it's never a good thing for one Leo to prank another Leo.

With my friend, Morganna, who also goes by "Chicana Witch" (the name her RavenMyst Tradition teacher gave her), summer 2006, relaxing together with a drink. I'm not a seasoned drinker, and even less of a bartender. Later that evening CW's husband announced, "We will never let Edain mix the drinks again," after they both stood by and watched me poor half a fifth of tequilla in the blender. I was going for color, not taste.

This tow-headed quintet from 1964 is made up of myself (on the left), my 3 year-old brother, and our three equally blonde and long-legged cousins.

Me and those same cousins with our mothers, Memorial Day Weekend 2003. My dear aunt, on the far right, passed into the Summerland May 23, 2006.

Florida Pagan Gathering, Beltane 2007
Selena Fox and I pause for a moment before FPG's beautifully staged Main Ritual to "flap our wings" for a camera. The ritual was Egyptian-oriented, lavishly costumed, and very moving as we watched the ritual drama of Isis and Osiris unfold within a circle of candlelight.

Me at Appamattox Courthouse, VA, as a college freshman in 1975. At this time I had no idea what an empath was, and of all my experiences with barrages of outside emotions, this was the worst. As we turned off the main highway onto the narrow road leading to antebellum area of Appamattox I began crying, then sobbing out of control. I didn't realize the well tended grassy fields we drove between had been the site of the last battle of the Civil War, but it took nearly an hour in the modern "Welcome Center" for me to regain my composure. It was shot again as we neared the house where Confederate General Robert E. Lee signed a formal surrender of his troops to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, while Lee's troop waited outside for orders to dispurse from their commander.

When I was 30 someone older and wiser recognized me as an empath and helped me to learn to recognize and cope with this dubious gift. Since then I've recognized many empaths in the Pagan community. Some of us were born empathic, but I believe our openness to external energies and our awareness of the connection of all things makes empaths out of many of us.

At the 2005 Heartland Pagan Festival I gave my first workshop on recognizing and coping with empathy. The attendance was much higher than I expected, and the crowd was very participatory, offering suggestions and help to the many questions and issues posed. One very experience empath commented to me later that Heartland should consider having a support meeting for empaths every year. As more of us recognize that we're empaths and not emotional time bombs who need medication, I think more workshops and support groups will be formed within our communities.

As for those jeans... I know this fashion look is back, but I cringe when looking at my 18 year-old self wearing clothing that wouldn't go out of style for another three or four years. And, no, I do not still have them.

Old high school buddies reunited, Joanie (right) and myself, end up as losers in a water fight in Texas during the winter of 1979.

Me (on right) and my writing partner, Diane Holmes, perform our obligatory skit at the Holiday Party for Central Indiana Professional Writers. December 1997 marked the end of long and hectic year for us as co-presidents. Earlier that same year we also ended up with offices of media chair and database coordinator jobs tossed in our laps.

Hut 5 Campers With Friends, Florida Pagan Gathering, Beltane Festival, 2007
Selena Fox of Circle Sanctuary had this photo taken of (from left to right) Ann Moura, Gavin Bone, Janet Farrar, Selena Fox, Isaac Bonewitz, and myself. The humidity was intense, but the energy of this festival is always so outrageously high that it's difficult to complain.

Coven Of The Raven (and guests) Cookout, May 2006
Me with Thomas at a Ravenmyst Tradition gathering. Thomas and I share a love of the Fey. Behind us and to the lower right is an enchanting faery lair he shared with me. Thomas had a collection of offerings in his pocket, and from this we added two small bloodstones to the faeries' horde. He and I connected through a series of mutual friends and people I knew who knew other people and-- You get the idea. Thomas and his sweet elven wife opened their beautiful home to their coven and guests for a energizing and entertaining evening.

My then life partner and dance partner pausing for a photo outside the dance in the Terrace Room inside the beautiful Grand Hotel on Mackiniac Island in northern Michigan, summer 1999. The gracious Edwardian hotel was the shooting location for the movie "Somewhere In Time" with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve.

My beloved Sheltie, Sandy (1987-2002), was quite psychic and always lent his presence and energy to any magickal operation. Here I am charging a mirror held by three branches of a small tree. I took the photo for my book "Magick & Rituals of the Moon." Until I got the prints back I hadn't realized Sandy was standing watch over the mirror. Llewellyn's art department used this photo to create an illustration for the magick moon mirror spells in the book.

Wicca Spreads Across the Americas!
The last thing I expected was to receive an e-mail from a delightful young Pagan in Buenos Aires two months after I left. We began an instant correspondence. She sent this photo of herself and her beautiful Wiccan friends, and granted my request to post the photo here. From left to right: Violeta (my contact), Lucía, y Andrea.

My friend and fellow author Rhiannon Skye meets my other friend and fellow author Christopher Penczak when he was in Indy in August 2005 to do a booksigning at World of Wisdom, which was opened 20 years ago, and is still owned and operated by another dear friend, Julie Agard. As the proper society ladies would say, "And a delightful time was had by all."

Pro-Am Ballroom Exhibition Dance, 1999. My instructor had recently taken me through to the Bronze American Medal level. This was my first exhibition in Silver level, a waltz during which the facility's sound system failed and we had to complete the dance without music or do it all over again when it was repaired.

Lifelong friends who become family just come with the Craft. Here I am with Dragon Clan Circle's Priestess Breanna WinDancer at a booksigning in the beautiful Bloomington, IN, occult store FaDraSha. Though we have no reason to think we are related by blood in any way the general population would accept, Bre and I are sisters. We just are and we know it. We feel like sisters, act like sisters, love like sisters, look out for one another like sisters, and believe we are connected by the Goddess in whose blood we are all born. Hummm... so maybe we're blood relatives after all. She wrote about it this way--

"Friends by fate, Sisters by heart,
with no blood line in between.
But love no greater can be found,
until friends who feel like sisters are seen.
Fate brought us together,
Sisters we've felt from the start.
No greater bond can be had
than sisters bonded by heart."

Being the minister's daughter had a few advantages, such as borrowing a choir robe for a Headless Horseman costume for a Halloween party when I was 15.

Me at age 3 being held still by my older cousins so our uncle could take this photo.

Me with my paternal grandmother in 1957. In those "good old days" fathers were relegated to a waiting room and the mother-to-be delivered her baby in a semi-conscious state. Because of this, my grandmother was the first family member to hold me immediately after my birth.

Playing nice with our mother between us, my brother and I show our true selves when she steps out of the picture.

In May 2006 our family adopted a blue merle Sheltie we named Duchess for her regal manners. She was rescued as a stray with serious attack wounds and dehydration. This sweet girl is in her teens, but survived her surgery and long recovery, and when she's not sleeping she's as frisky as a puppy. This senior lady adores my mother and has made it clear to me whose dog she's going to be.

My father was my first music teacher. I began studying the piano before my feet could reach the pedals. Because my parents could not afford to buy me a piano of my own I practiced on the pianos in the churches my father served. When we lived in an only marginally safe neighborhood (you take the house the church gives you) he moved a piano into a room that I could lock. (Aren't those goofy knee socks the most hideous thing mother's put on their little girls since the invention of the Easter Bonnet?)

Tall, leggy, and mugging for the camera at age 7 on the back porch of the old Bethany Christian Church parsonage in Evansville, IN. All these blocks of churches, schools, and old homes have been razed and taken over by Deaconess Hospital.

Craft elders and fellow ballroom dance afficianados, Gavin and Yvonne Frost, strike a classic Argentine Tango pose before their dance workshop at FPG, Beltane 2007.

January 20, 1977. Record cold temperatures were paralyzing the east coast from Boston to Miami. In spite of the freezing weather, nine of us college friends--in the solid belief we were invincible that only comes with youth--set out from this home in Arlington, VA, to attend the inarguration of President Jimmy Carter, and to watch he and Rosalind parade on foot down Pennsylvania Avenue to the reviewing stand in front of the White House.

My brother home on his first leave from the U.S. Navy, 1978

Everyone has that one great friend of their young adulthood with whom they always got into trouble. On the right is my partner in mischief, Avigail MacPhee. We met at The Univeristy of Texas and became inseparable. Here we're in line with the tourists on San Antonio's beautiful Riverwalk waiting for a barge for the Christmas Cruise. The real object of the evening for everyone was to not be pooped on by the trees teaming with grackles, a variety of noisy, longtailed blackbirds that the city could never eradicate.

As maid-of-honor for best friend in 1981, held at the Greek Orthodox Church in Mansfield, OH.

With "baby" Brother, Richard, 1998. Ladies, he is once again "spoken for."

My dance partner finishes the final "spin out" after a speedy swing dance at our joint birthday party, August 1999.

Dressed for the Ballroom, Latin-style, in a hand-embroidered dress, 2000

My very special Aunt and Uncle with two of their eight champion Kuvasz (Sparkle and Tango) hiking in beautiful eastern Washington, June 2003. My "flatlander" stamina finally gave out and I had to let one of these strong dogs pull me up a steep incline.

Breanna and I (right) clowning after finding out how may Pagans you can put in a hotel hot tub. Evening after Indianapolis Pagan Pride Day, Sept. 24, 2005.
